Sam Ved took shape in 1990. With the demise of the Kathak maestro Pt. Durgalalji, his senior most disciple Smt. Uma Dogra took a silent oath near his funeral pyre in Delhi. She pledged to spread the essence and fame of her guru all over the world. It is her humble tribute to the great maestro whose immense contribution to the
field of dance cannot be merely enumerated through words.

Her actions were her tribute… her dedication thus flowered into what we know today as the "Sam Ved Society For Performing Arts".

SAM VED SOCIETY FOR PERFORMING ARTS came into existence in the year 1990. It was registered as a charitable trust under the Bombay Trust Act, 1950. Eminent actress, Ms. Shabana Azmi, doctor, builder and banker, Dr. L. L. Oswal,
Dr. V. Lulla, and an enterprising businesswoman, Ms. Nisha Jha, graced the trustee panel. And Smt. Uma Dogra shouldered the mantle of the Managing Trustee.



Today when one talks about Sam Ved, one can very proudly say that it as an institution stands upright like a strong body of righteous connoisseurs. The trustee panel over the years has expanded and now also consists of eminent artistes and lovers of the art.  Sh. Chitraarth an eminent filmmaker, Sh. Barun Mukherjee an eminent director of photography, Sh.V.Viswanathan
an erudite businessperson. Besides them the patron members of the society come together from various fields as well. Mr. Pralhad Kakar and Smt. Mitali Kakar two eminent personalities from the entertainment media, the most famous and renowned bhajan singer of our times - Sh. Anoop Jalota and his wife Smt. Medha Jalota, Sh. Bhushan Lakhandri a most talented and gifted choreographer, Sh. Shailendra Bhartti - another very famous bhajan singer of today, consist the back bone of Sam Ved. Right from its inception, Sam Ved has been working earnestly and conscientiously towards its goal, bringing to the audiences, the dignity and beauty of Classical dance and music.



In a span of 17 years, it has made an identity for itself as one of the premiere cultural organisations in Mumbai. Over the years Sam Ved has had the privilege of Masters of almost every field having performed for it. Artistes of repute from the Dance genre like - Pt. KeluCharan Mohapatra, Smt. Sunayna Hazarila, Smt. Uma Sharma, Smt. Geetanjali Lal, Smt.
Saswati Sen, Smt. Meenakshi Sheshadri, Smt. Hema Malini, and for this years performance we have the consent of Smt. Sonal Mansingh. From the Vocal Genre like - Pt. Jasraj ji, Smt. Veena Sahastrabuddhe, Smt. Parveen Sultana, Ustad Rashid Khan, Pt. Rajan - Sajan Mishra, Smt. Shubha Mudgal, Smt. Padma Talwalkar. And from the Instrumental Field like - Pt. Shiv Kumar Sharma, Ustaad Sultaan Khan Sahib, Pt. Brij Narayan ji, Shree Satish Vyas, Smt. Kala Ramnath, and many more have graced the stage by rendering a heart warming performance in Guru ji's memory.

It has been an interesting journey so far. Each year is a newer challenge and every forth-coming year poses a greater challenge since the audiences expect the best from us now. And we infallibly have taken an oath to satiate this whim of the audiences.
